ABC/Image Group LALast week, you may have heard about a viral story about a mosh pit erupting during a punk show inside a Denny’s restaurant, causing nearly $2,000 in damages. Now, that story has a happy ending — thanks to Green Day.

The show was put together by a 17-year-old punk fan from Costa Mesa, California named Bryson Del Valle, in collaboration with a skate-punk company called Bastards Club. According to Billboard, Del Valle rented out the back room of a Denny’s in Orange County, California so his favorite band, Wacko, could perform a set.

A Denny’s spokesperson told Billboard that no questions were asked when Del Valle initially rented out the room, as a manager assumed that he was doing so to reserve space for a large-party meal, “which is the room’s intended purpose.”

What happened next is what often happens at punk shows: lots and lots of moshing, with a side of property damage. The story quickly went viral, and a YouTube video of Wacko’s full 22-minute performance has racked up over 90,000 views.

Del Valle told Billboard that the Denny’s manager initially told him he’d owe “probably about $500” in damages. A fundraiser set up by Wacko soon raised $1,000, but then Del Valle said Denny’s told him he actually owed $1,800.  After he set up another GoFundMe to make up the rest of the money owed, that’s where Green Day came in.

Over the weekend, the punk trio donated $2,000 to the fundraiser, effectively covering the whole bill. They also left a comment: “Hey Bryson call us! We wanna play the Bastards Club. Love, Green Day.”

Maybe now Green Day will add a Denny’s show to their 2020 tour with Fall Out Boy and Weezer.
