A Mountain Home man who broke into a home while high on drugs and was confronted inside the residence by the owner appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.

Thirty-nine-year-old William Amos Cobb asked that his $25,000 bond be lowered. Judge John Putman denied the request.

Cobb entered a not guilty plea to the charges against him in late June last year. He has been an inmate in the Baxter County Detention Center since being arrested June 3.

A Baxter County deputy responded to the residence along County Road 1159 after the owner reported hearing someone inside the home.

The homeowner told the deputy she then saw a stranger in her house. The intruder was identified as Cobb who was reported to be under the influence of a narcotic, according to the probable cause affidavit.

The deputy found Cobb sitting in the back seat of a vehicle belonging to the home’s residents. The deputy questioned him, and Cobb admitted the SUV was not his. Cobb also admitted he did not know the owners of the house or vehicle.

Once the victim’s husband arrived, he went through the house and found Cobb had allegedly been in the kitchen cabinets and had also gone through the couple’s mail.

Cobb had brought a large rock into the house for some unknown reason and left it in the kitchen area.

Cobb faces charges of residential burglary, breaking or entering and criminal mischief. He is due to reappear in circuit court in mid-February.
