Pinkston sixth-grader captures Baxter County Spelling Bee

Bailey Byrd, a sixth-grader at Pinkston Middle school, correctly spelled the word duopoly to take first place in the Baxter County Spelling Bee on Wednesday morning at The Sheid.Bailey is the daughter of Nathan Byrd and Yvonne Byrd.Fifth-grader Aiden Burns, the son of Shaughan and Paula Burns finished second, while Asher Alloway was third. Alloway is a third-grader at Hackler Intermediate School and is the son of Kimberly and Nathanial Alloway.

Byrd now advances to the State Spelling Bee, slated for Saturday, Feb. 1, at Cabot High School’s Fine Arts Auditorium.

The state event is sponsored by the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas.
