
A collision between a semi-trailer truck and a passenger vehicle in West Plains Monday evening has claimed the life of 61-year-old Anna M. Hambelton of Dora. The accident remains under investigation by the West Plains Police Department (WPPD).John Murrell III, public information officer with WPPD, says the accident occurred at the intersection of U.S. Highway 63 and State Route CC/Gibson Avenue.
The investigation revealed the semi-trailer truck was northbound on Highway 63 approaching the intersection when the traffic light changed from green to amber and then to red. The driver of the truck failed to yield, striking a westbound passenger vehicle that had started to proceed through the intersection with a green traffic light.
Hambelton was a passenger in the vehicle struck by the truck. She was transported to Ozark Medical Center in West Plains, where she was pronounced deceased. The driver of the passenger vehicle was transported to a Springfield hospital with what were described as serious injuries. The driver of the truck was uninjured.
Officer Murrell says the identities of the drivers have not been released, pending the outcome of the investigation.
The 7:13 p.m. collision caused major damage to both vehicles.
