
The Mountain Home Junior High basketball teams dropped two of three games at Jonesboro MacArthur Thursday night. The lone win came in the junior girls’ game 32-29. Cate Jackson hit a three-pointer with three seconds left for the game winner. Jackson finished with 12 points, as the Junior Lady Bombers improve to 10-7 on the season.
The Junior Bombers fell to MacArthur 27-18. Reece Ducker led the scoring with seven points, as the Junior Bombers fall to 4-12.
MacArthur edged Mountain Home in the eighth grade boys’ game 27-23. Braiden Dewey topped the score sheet with seven points.
The Cotter junior girls posted a 55-15 win over Viola. Emma Jones and Becca Benedict each scored 12 points for the Junior Lady Warriors.
Cotter won the seventh grade girls’ game over Viola 19-9.
There were a few high school basketball games in the area as well Thursday night.
In boys’ action:
-The number one team in the state in class 3A was upset, as Valley Springs lost to Clinton 43-40. The Tigers fall to 23-3 overall and 8-1 in the 3A-1 East Conference.
-Izard County won its game in the Izard County Tournament, topping Salem 74-45. The top ranked team in the state in class 1A improves to 25-5 on the season. Caleb Faulkner led the way with 19 points, Justus Cooper scored 15, Dylan Tharp had 11, and Chase Orf had 10 points.
In girls’ action:
-Valley Springs squeaks by Clinton 44-41 to improve to 22-5 overall and 6-3 in the 3A-1 East Conference.
