The City of Mountain Home will conduct a public meeting Tuesday night at 6 in the council chambers of city hall to discuss a potential community/aquatic center for McCabe Park.

Mountain Home Mayor Hillrey Adams says he hopes to hear the public’s feedback on the facility. The mayor envisions a temporary sales tax to cover the construction of the facility. He also hopes for a small, permanent sales tax to fund maintenance and operations for the center, which would be built off U.S. Highway 62/412 in the southwest corner of the city.

Adams says updates to the city’s parks system are desperately needed.

Early plans include an aquatic center with indoor and outdoor pools, with the indoor one suitable for holding competitions for the high school and summer swim teams in the city. Pools would also be able to be used for therapy activities and other classes. Additional outdoor waterpark features include a water slide, dive pool, lazy river and a shallow play pool.

The complex would feature an indoor gymnasium with three basketball courts that could also be used for pickleball or volleyball, along with an indoor walking track.

Adams told KYTV the plan also includes adding disc golf, new playground equipment and resurfacing Cooper Park’s tennis courts. The current city pool would be turned into a splash pad, and the L.C. Sammons Youth Center would get some upgrades as well.

Other improvements include upgrading the fields at Keller Park.
