Local basketball teams have mixed results to open postseason

Postseason play began Monday for several area high school basketball teams.

Three local teams won their opening round games in the 2A-1 District Tournament at Decatur.
The Cotter boys were able to clinch a regional tournament berth after defeating Eureka Springs 43-38. The Warriors improve to 9-23 on the season.
Flippin’s girls were also able to continue their season into next week after beating Haas Hall Academy. The Lady Bobcats are now 16-15 on the year.
In the other girls’ game, Yellville-Summit was able to squeak by Decatur 36-35 to advance to the semifinals. The Lady Panthers’ record is now 11-13.

The 1A-2 District Tournament held its opening round at Omaha.
Norfork’s boys are one win away from advancing to the regional tournament after beating St. Joe 75-47. The Panthers improve to 15-16. The Wildcats’ season ends at 6-22.
Norfork’s next opponent will be Omaha. Bruno-Pyatt fell to the host Eagles 82-52. The Patriots wrap up the year at 6-23, and Omaha is now 19-11.
Calico Rock came up just short in the first boys’ game of the day after getting edged out by Lead Hill 48-46. The Pirates’ final record is 8-22, and the Tigers improve to 18-20.
The season also came to an end for the Bruno-Pyatt girls, as they lost to Lead Hill 55-43. The Lady Patriots finish the campaign at 8-19. The Lady Tigers are now 23-15 on the year.
Izard County was able to win the other girls’ game by a score of 59-47 over Omaha. Allison Newman led the Lady Cougars with 19 points, and Cassidy Coleman added 17. Izard County is now 16-15 on the season. The Lady Eagles wrap up the year at 5-24.

Salem’s boys watched their season come to an end, as they began hosting the 2A-3 District Tournament. In a battle between Greyhounds, Salem fell to Marmaduke 62-57. Salem’s final record for the year is 8-17.

Two area girls’ teams squared off on the opening night of the 3A-1 East District Tournament at Bergman. Marshall was eliminated by the host Lady Panthers 49-42. The Lady Bobcats end the season at 16-8. Bergman improves to 26-10 and clinches a regional tournament bid.

The Harrison boys won their opening game in the 4A-1 District Tournament at Prairie Grove, as they topped Gentry 65-51. The Goblins are now 10-17 on the year.

Jasper’s girls clinched a regional berth after winning their opener in the 1A-1 District Tournament at Kingston. The Lady Pirates invoked the mercy rule, as they routed the Northwest Arkansas Classical Academy 65-19. Jasper improves to 16-14 and will take on the host Lady Yellowjackets Wednesday in the semifinals.

Elsewhere, the Gainesville girls had a rough night on their home floor. The Lady Bulldogs fell to Norwood 64-49.

Dora’s boys wrapped up the regular season with a 72-54 victory over Clever. The Falcons were led by Isaac Haney with 25 points and 10 rebounds, Mason Luna scored 15 points, Waylon Masters had 14 points and 14 rebounds, and Bryson Luna chipped in 10 points. Dora will go into district play with a record of 25-2.
