High school basketball makes up the local Friday schedule, as the regular season comes to an end for Mountain Home, and for the girls, a conference championship is on the line. The Bombers and Lady Bombers will head toward the Mississippi River, as they face West Memphis.
Mountain Home’s girls are part of a three-way tie for first place in the 5A-East with the Lady Blue Devils and Nettleton, as all three teams have a conference record of 10-3, and Jonesboro trails by a half game. If the Lady Bombers get the victory, they will win at least a share of the league title and clinch a No. 1 seed for next week’s state tournament. Mountain Home, ranked fifth in Class 5A by the Arkansas Sports Media, is 21-5 on the season after beating up on Searcy on Tuesday. West Memphis is 21-6 coming off a loss to Greene County Tech. The Lady Bombers fell 35-33 on Jan. 31 on a game-winning offensive rebound and putback by the Lady Blue Devils.
The Mountain Home boys are 15-11 overall and 6-7 in the conference after squeaking by Searcy three nights ago. West Memphis, ranked No. 1 in Class 5A and No. 4 overall in the Arkansas Sports Media’s latest poll, is coming off a seven-point win over Tech. The Bombers ended up losing to the Blue Devils 49-45 nearly a month ago.
