The Mountain Home High School girls’ basketball team is one win away from playing for a state championship after winning the first quarterfinal game of the Class 5A State Tournament Thursday at Russellville. Matt Sharp has the details.
Listen:
The Lady Bombers picked up their second win over Watson Chapel this year with a 58-39 decision. The Lady Wildcats scored the first two points of the game, and that would be their only lead. Mountain Home ended the first quarter up seven, and the two teams played fairly even in the second period. After the Lady Bombers built a double-digit advantage in the third quarter, Watson Chapel cut the margin back to three, but they would get no closer. Mountain Home pulled further away, as they went up by as much as 21 before winning by 19.
Kate Gilbert led the Lady Bombers with 22 points, and Leah Jackson added 10. For the Lady Wildcats, Ky’aria Ginger scored 12 points.
Watson Chapel finishes the season with a record of 19-10. Mountain Home improves to 23-6, and they’ll return to Russellville Saturday, as they compete in the semifinals at noon against either Nettleton or Sylvan Hills.
