Courtesy of Clarion Call MediaVeteran U.K. New Wave band Modern English will celebrate its 40th anniversary on a new North American club tour taking place in June and July.
The trek gets underway June 12 in San Diego and runs through a July 11 show in West Palm Beach, Florida. At all the concerts, Modern English will play their 1982 breakthrough album After the Snow in full. The record includes the group’s enduring New Wave/pop classic, “I Melt with You.”
After the Snow was produced by Hugh Jones, whose studio work also includes albums by Simple Minds, Echo & the Bunnymen, Adam and the Ants, The Icicle Works and many others.
“Recording After the Snow with Hugh Jones as producer was an incredible experience. To say it changed our lives forever would be an understatement,” says Modern English frontman Robbie Grey. “The band wants to bring this experience to a live audience as we play the album in its entirety for the first time. We want to bring a creative and memorable atmosphere to a tour which will be very special for us.”
Modern English reissued After the Snow and its 1981 debut album, Mesh & Lace, this past December.
In advance of the tour, the band will release an exclusive 12-inch vinyl single featuring “I Melt with You” on April 18 as part of the 2020 Record Store Day campaign. The disc also will include “Trees” and “Moonbeam,” two songs from the group’s latest studio album, 2017’s Take Me to the Trees.
