Staff at the Van Matre Senior Activity and Wellness Center is taking precautions due to the coronavirus. The senior center will be closed to the public beginning Tuesday, and several of its services will be suspended for two weeks.

Only staff will be allowed in during the closure. All socialization, congregate (lunch) and transportation for social trips, the beauty shop or non-essential locations will be suspended.

All building rentals and fundraising events have been canceled until the center returns to full operation. The senior games have been cancelled, and refunds will be issued to the athletes.

The center will continue to provide Meals on Wheels and transportation to the grocery store, the pharmacy and non-sickness-related medical appointments. Transportation will not be allowed to a client that is ill or running a fever.

The senior center’s clients and members regularly receiving a meal can use the drive-thru pick-up service between 11 and 11:45. Clients will need to drive to the back of the building to pick up the meal, and the $3 donation still applies.

Staff will re-evaluate the senior center’s status on March 27 to determine when they can re-open or resume full operations. For more information, call 870-424-3054.
