Courtesy of Michael StipeLast Thursday, Michael Stipe posted a video online showing him singing the 1987 R.E.M. hit “It’s the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)” and delivering helpful advice about how avoid spreading or contracting the COVID-19 coronavirus during the current pandemic.
Stipe now has followed up that clip with a new video showing him singing a verse of his old band’s 1986 gem “Underneath the Bunker” while also sharing some words of encouragement for everyone hunkering down at home during the health crisis.
The video starts with Stipe, wearing a hat, singing along to an instrumental recording of the song, which appeared on R.E.M.’s Life’s Rich Pageant album.
After his brief performance ends, Michael says, “I’m bunkering at home. I’m sheltering at home. I’m keeping apart. We’re together, separate. Together, separate…For each other’s goods. We’re keeping ourselves apart from each other for everyone’s good.”
He adds, “So I hope that you’re doing well. I hope that your heart is good, and I hope that you’re feeling the love from all over the world, because it’s there. We’re all in this together, and we’re gonna get through.”
