A Searcy County man found pantless in the passenger seat of a vehicle observed leaving the roadway three times and driving upon the curb on each occasion has been arrested, along with the driver of the truck. In the process of the arrest, the passenger, 30-year-old Clyde Albert Eaton of Marshall, allegedly punched a Searcy County Sheriff’s deputy.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the arrests followed two deputies observing the vehicle on March 13 on U.S. Highway 65 traveling between Marshall and Leslie and initiating a traffic stop.Upon making contact with the driver, the deputies reported smelling the odor of intoxicants emitting from the vehicle.
A standard field sobriety test was administered on the driver, who was taken into custody on the suspicion of DWI.
Eaton remained in the vehicle and was observed wearing no pants, with his underwear soaked. He reportedly refused to use his cellphone to call someone to pick him up, instead, saying he would drive the vehicle home.
Eaton then allegedly told the deputy since he paid his salary, he could drive him home. When the deputy declined to drive the Searcy County man home, he allegedly began screaming profanities at the officer.
Eaton also allegedly declined to exit the vehicle and instead fastened his seat belt.
With the assistance of a second deputy, Eaton exited the vehicle quickly. When directed to turn around and place his hands behind his back, Eaton reportedly drew back his hand and punched one of the deputies in the chest, causing him to stumble backwards. He then allegedly spit on the deputy.
Eaton has been charged with a felony count of aggravated assault upon a law enforcement officer, along with misdemeanor counts of second-degree assault, disorderly conduct and public intoxication. His bond was set at $5,000.
