A report from a neighbor of a Searcy County man firing his shotgun after threatening her has led to the arrest of convicted felon 43-year-old Van Moore Jr. of Leslie.According to a probable cause affidavit, Searcy County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call from a female residing along Cross Street in Leslie on March 10.
The woman advised her neighbor, later identified as Moore, had exited his residence and threatened her as she was walking her dog, followed by him firing two shots in the air.
At the Moore residence, a shotgun was observed leaning next to a doorway in plain view within about 10 feet of Moore, who was sitting on a sofa concluding a telephone call.
Moore exited the residence to talk to law enforcement and was reportedly observed stumbling and with slurred speech.
He allegedly said he had fired one round from the shotgun into the air from the back porch of his residence.
Since Moore is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing a firearm, he was taken into custody. He has been charged with felony counts of possession of a firearm by certain persons and terroristic threatening, along with a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.
An inspection of the .12 gauge shotgun revealed one spent shell in the chamber and two unused rounds.
Moore’s bond was set at $7,500.
