When Eddie Sutton’s phone rang on Friday, it was the call so many of his former players have campaigned hard for him to receive.
The legendary coach will be enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, a source confirmed to KATV. The news was first reported by the Tulsa World. This was his seventh time as a finalist since 2002.
Sutton, 84, coached at Arkansas from 1974 through 1985 and led the Razorbacks to 260 wins and a Final Four appearance in 1978. Overall, he had an 806-329 record and 26 NCAA Tournament appearances in 37 seasons. He is one of nine NCAA Division I coaches with 800 wins.
He also led Oklahoma State, his alma mater, to 13 NCAA Tournaments and two Final Fours; he took Kentucky to three tournaments.
A formal announcement will come Saturday at 11 a.m.
