The Baxter County Quorum Court agenda includes just two items of new business, one a routine housekeeping measure, for the justices to consider when they meet in regular session Tuesday evening at 6.

But under the announcements portion of the agenda, Judge Mickey Pendergrass says he will bring the latest information he has on the potential impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the county’s coffers.

In a message to county officials and the media late last week, Judge Pendergrass says to be prepared for possibly needing to address the county’s future operations in view of the pandemic’s impact on revenue.

He says administrative steps have already been taken to deal with the fallout of the COVID-19 on the county’s operation and will be ramped up as officials learn more daily.

The quorum court will also be asked to take action on an emergency ordinance to address leave policies in times of a public health emergency declared by the governor.

The meeting will be held in the second floor courtroom of the courthouse and will be broadcast on XL7-TV due to social distancing requirements. Pendergrass says adjustable cameras will be utilized that should scan all parts of the room where those in attendance will be spaced at least 6 feet from one another to meet the requirements.

Pendergrass says livestreaming through Baxter County’s YouTube channel will be available at www.baxtercounty.org, as well as XL7-TV’s channel.

Access for the public to make contact during the meeting will be made at Judge Pendergrass’ desk for live comments and/or questions.
