Credit: Kate IzorRoger Waters took part in a lengthy video interview that was posted Thursday on RollingStone.com. Among the interesting topics Waters discussed was a failed meeting he had last year with his former Pink Floyd band mates David Gilmour and Nick Mason, during which he presented a peace plan that he says “didn’t bear fruit.”
When the interviewer suggested that, in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, it would be nice if the band members could resolve their differences, Waters responded by saying, “No, it wouldn’t be nice. It would be f***ing awful. Obviously, if you’re a fan of those days of Pink Floyd…you would have a different point of view. I had to live through it.”
He added, “I know in the wake of it, I’ve been cast as something of a villain…but so be it. I can live with that. But would I trade my liberty for those chains? No f***ing way.”
Waters went on to explain that the meeting had nothing to do with a band reunion, noting, “This was just, ‘Can we release the remastered vinyl version of Animals without it turning into the third World War?!'”
Meanwhile, Waters said he “really, really enjoyed” joining Mason’s current group Saucerful of Secrets at their concert last April in New York City to sing a version of the early Pink Floyd tune “Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun.”
“I was so glad I was able to go to that,” he gushed. “And it was great playing with those guys.”
Waters also shared his excitement about his This Is Not a Drill tour, which recently was postponed until 2021. Roger described the trek as “part rock ‘n’ roll arena show, part cinema…and partly an expression of my love and political beliefs.”
