The MH CARES initiative is wrapping up this week with three events. The purpose of MH CARES is to raise community-sponsored dollars, using Mountain Home’s Salvation Army as the conduit, to cater meals from local restaurants to families and workers affected by the coronavirus.
On Wednesday, in honor of National Skilled Nursing Care Week, pizza from House of Pizza will be catered to five local nursing homes and assisted living facilities to feed 240 essential workers who have been on the frontlines caring for the most “at risk” population.
Thursday will be an opportunity for another business sponsor to join the relief effort for local restaurants as Carter’s Jewel Chest welcomes back local dental offices with meals catered by Whispering Woods Grill.
On Friday, MH CARES will facilitate the combination of resources from local veteran organizations including the DAV Chapter 30, DAVA Unit 30, American Legion Post 52 and VFW Post 3246, along with a matching contribution of private donors, to provide a total of 650 meals from Mel’s Diner, The Back Forty, Skipper’s Restaurant and Holy Smokes BBQ and Catering to local veterans. A portion of these meals will be delivered by volunteers to local nursing homes, where they will be distributed to resident veterans. The remaining 400 plus meals will be distributed during the final drive-thru to be held at the American Legion Post 52, located at 717 Market Street, Friday afternoon beginning at 4 on a first-come, first-served basis. Veterans and active duty members of the armed forces are encouraged to pick up meals for their families.
Any future donations to MH CARES may be made to the Salvation Army in Mountain Home and will be used in the continued efforts in the community.
