Three years after Bull Shoals voters gave approval for a sales tax to partially fund a new $9 million wastewater plant, the project is in its final stages.

In a recent visit with Bob Knight on KTLO-FM, Mayor David Nixon says crews are just days away from filling the plant, allowing wastewater to flow through the system.

While the total cost of the project was $9 million, nearly $3.5 million were raised through a 1% sales tax approved by voters in May 2017. The remaining 60% of funding came through grants from the U.S. Departments of Commerce and Agriculture and the Delta Regional Authority.

At the time of the groundbreaking in the fall of 2018, Mayor Nixon said the city has been in need of a new system for some time.

In his recent visit on KTLO-FM, Nixon says the only other concern with the project is the potential for heavy machinery to cause damage to city streets.
