The annual deadline to assess all personal property to avoid a 10% tax penalty is approaching.
Baxter County Assessor Jayme Nicholson says state law requires the assessment of all personal property annually between Jan. 1 and May 31 for both businesses and individuals. With the deadline falling on Sunday, this year property owners may assess until June 1 without penalty.

A complete list of all items that must be assessed is available on the Baxter County Assessor’s website at https://baxtercountyassessor.com/Assess/Items-To-Assess.
Nicholson says for those wanting to complete the assessment process in-person her office is located at Six East Seventh Street on the south side of the Baxter County courthouse square.
Even though most Baxter County government offices have reopened to limited traffic, Nicholson says there are other ways to complete the assessment process other than in-person.

Nicholson says for those who miss the deadline the 10% penalty for property taxes is a state mandate. The assessment deadline applies across all Arkansas’ 75 counties.
For those outside of Baxter County, consult with the local Office of Assessor to determine what procedures are in place for completing the process.
