Marion County Judge John Massey says County Road 8060 remains temporarily closed due to a dangerous deterioration at the Jimmie’s Creek Bridge.

Last week, Judge Massey said heavy rains had led to the closure and warned motorists to avoid the area.

In two postings to the Marion County Facebook since Friday morning, it was noted barricades have been moved, with Massey and the county’s road foreman receiving reports of individuals crossing the bridge despite the warnings. It was noted those making the crossing are taking a huge chance the bridge could fall in.

County officials discovered “Road Closed” signs from half a mile away from the bridge had been moved, as well as barricades and tape. Those signs, barricades and tape have been put back in place.

It was also noted that where people have crossed the bridge despite the warnings, ground has fallen away and water could be seen.

The road department hopes to begin work to repair the deterioration on Monday. Judge Massey notes the weather and the rising lake levels have hindered repairs.
