Ozark County voters say no to online sales tax

Voters in Ozark County have said no to a proposed online sales tax. Complete but unofficial results show 68% voted against the measure, with 32% in favor. The vote totals show 786 voted against, with 373 voting for the proposal. An additional 2% would have been added to the state sales tax of 4.225% being paid by consumers who order online or through catalogs.

Three school board races were also decided with the top three vote getters in each race being elected.

On the Gainesville School Board, Marti Warden had 360 votes, Corey Hillhouse had 359 and Jeremy Kiger had 330 to get elected. Douglas Hawkins had 295 votes to finish fourth.

At Dora, Cassidy Martin had 250 votes, Jerry Moritz had 221 and Lindsay Collins 206 to get elected. Finishing fourth was Mindy Trail with 152 votes.

At Thornfield, Terry Ewing led the way with 96 votes, Donnie Cunningham had 88 and William “Mitch” Cook had 72 to get elected. Travis Tucker had 44 votes, and Rita Renee Graham had 33.

There were 1,294 ballots cast out of 7,071 registered voters for an 18.3% voter turnout.
