As the state of Arkansas continues to try to return to somewhat of a sense of normalcy, the Arkansas Activities Association (AAA) has announced it’s changing some allowances for school athletics. The AAA will be giving schools the option of skipping the dead period that’s usually mandatory during the summer to afford the opportunity for athletic teams to further prepare for the upcoming school year.
For Mountain Home, some sports will skip the dead period, but others won’t. The Bomber program’s fall sports (football, volleyball, golf, tennis and cross country) will be practicing during the normal dead period.
Mountain Home Athletic Director Mitch Huskey says the schedule for athletes to practice depends on the activities they participate in.

Huskey says athletes will be excused, if their family vacations are already planned during the practice period.

Huskey says for the kids and the staff, it has felt like they have been on a three-month dead period, and it’s good to see the teams back on the fields and courts.

Mountain Home’s coaches have put their practice schedules together to run through the end of June. July and August are still up in the air, until the AAA announces the second phase of the return to team sports.
