A Searcy County man, 35-year-old Thurman Hogue of Marshall, has been arrested after allegedly making a false report to law enforcement.
Sheriff Kenny Cassell says a call was made to 911 on June 2 advising more than 30 people were at the Grinder’s Ferry swimming hole “busting out windows, smashing bottles and chasing people.”
Cassell says local law enforcement officers, as well as National Park Service rangers, were dispatched to the scene of the alleged incident.
He says individuals law enforcement spoke with said a man and woman on the bluff were screaming at others and throwing rocks at them.
The couple was located at the Shine Eye Campground area and identified as Hogue and his female companion. They were transported to the Searcy County Detention Center on other charges. Sheriff Cassell did not elaborate on details on the other charges.
Cassell says a deputy from his department listened to the 911 call and determined it was from Hogue, and the information he provided proved to be false.
On June 10, Searcy County Probation Officer Bill Sellers arrested Hogue. He has been charged with communicating a false alarm causing action by an official or agency, a Class A misdemeanor. The amount of Hogue’s bond was not provided.
