A former Baxter County resident pled guilty to stealing items from a marina on Lake Norfork during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court last Thursday.

Thirty-seven-year-old David Leland Smith was put on probation for four years for the early 2017 crime.

Smith and another man were captured by video surveillance cameras climbing over a locked gate leading onto a dock.

The pair was captured walking up and down the dock and, at one point, reaching into an uncovered boat.

Rods and reels and a kayak were reported taken.

Smith appeared in court last Thursday by way of a video hookup. He waived his right to be physically present.

Smith’s identity was established by items of clothing he was wearing.

He had on a ball cap bearing the logo of a local company. Investigators took surveillance photos of Smith to the business, and he was identified.

He also had on a t-shirt with an unusual design on the front that he had been wearing when booked into the county jail on another charge — the same day as the incident at the marina.

During his video appearance, Smith said he is on parole after serving time on an earlier conviction. Records show he is being supervised by the Harrison office of Arkansas Community Corrections.

The other man in the case was also given probation.
