Melodikats to play Friday Night Live this week

The Melodikats are the headliner for this week’s Friday Night Live at Hickory Park. Music and activities will begin at 7 on the new Farmers & Merchants Stage. The Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce-sponsored event is free to the public and kid friendly.The Melodikats are a classic-hits cover band from the Mountain Home area, playing hit music from artists like The Eagles, Huey Lewis & The News, Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers, Bonnie Raitt, Eric Clapton, Jackson Browne, Hall & Oates, Orleans, Van Morrison, Michael McDonald, the Commodores, James Taylor, Karla Bonoff, the B52s and many more.

This year the group has added hits from Gladys Night, Linda Ronstadt, Delbert McClinton and Stevie Wonder to the mix.

Each member of this group brings 35-plus years of music experience to the band. Through the years they have used their skills in bands of different genres and over the past 20 years, most have served as leaders in worship teams in churches around the Mountain Home area. This fellowship of seasoned and versatile musicians combines their eclectic mix of instruments and five-part vocal harmonies in a refreshing and exciting way.

• Pete Adams, melodica, electric mandolin, keys, percussion, bass and vocals

• Rob Styer, guitar and vocals

• Eddie King, keys and vocals

• Vonda King, keys, percussion and vocals

• Steve Kesler, drums and percussion

• Mike Walker, bass and percussion

• Mark Hopper, trumpet and flugelhorn

• Tim Tucker, baritone and tenor xax

• Randy Blades, tenor sax

• New member, Michael Cole, trombone

Cole’s career spans 33 years as band director for public schools in Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas. He has taught the last 25 years at Salem. He received his bachelor’s degree from Missouri Western University, master’s degree at ASUMH and national board certification in 2011. He has played trombone for 48 years.

This week’s event is sponsored by Gregory Jewelers and Gregory Company.

A number of food vendors will be on hand selling their specialties.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs when they come out to enjoy what has become a summer tradition.
