The Pocahontas boys and West Side girls took home first-place trophies from the Cougar Classic High School Golf Tournament. The event hosted by Izard County High School wrapped up Wednesday at Cherokee Village South Course, after the first round was played at Turkey Mountain Golf Course.
Pocahontas dominated the boys’ action, winning by 85 strokes. They had a two-day total of 498. Second place Highland shot 583. Izard County was third with 593, and Salem was fifth with a 680.
Caleb Sullivan of Pocahontas was medalist with a 162. Izard County’s top golfer was Landon McBride with a 178. Salem was led by Keaton Bassham with a 211.
In girls’ action, West Side shot 536 to easily defeat runner-up Highland, who had a 590. Salem finished fourth with a 652.
Medalist honors went to Emma Johnson of West Side on the second hole of the sudden death playoff, after she and teammate Kendra Hartness each shot 175. Salem was led by Jaiden Strong with a 214.
