The Mountain Home Public School District has announced two positive COVID-19 tests since classes resumed on Aug. 24.

The district’s website indicated the positive tests on Monday. One staff member at Hackler Intermediate School has tested positive, and two additional staff members and one student have been identified as close probable contacts and are under quarantine.

Later Monday afternoon, the district website said a case of COVID-19 was confirmed at Guy Berry College and Career Academy. The positive test is from a staff member, and no other staff members or students are being considered a close contact to the individual.

Only those who have been designated as probable close contacts or positive cases will be required to quarantine, the district says. Students, families or employees will be contacted individually, if they are classified as probable close contacts.

Superintendent Dr. Jake Long discusses the district’s response.

Mountain Home Public Schools has reported four previous instances of COVID-19 positive results, with only one of those involving students in a classroom environment. On July 13, a positive case was reported during the Hackler Intermediate Summer Learning Program. The school did not have another positive result until Aug. 18, when two were reported involving the volleyball team at Mountain Home Junior High.

The other two reports, totaling four people, were reported prior to the beginning of the school year, but those affected were never on any school campus.
