August weather pretty normal; area still way ahead on rain for year

After a huge amount of rain fell in the Twin Lakes Area over the first six months of the year, the last two months have been close to normal. However, the area is still way ahead on rain for the year-to-date.

Through the end of August, 49.65 inches of rain was recorded at KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot studios, the official reporting station in Mountain Home for the National Weather Service. The normal rainfall for the first eight months is 28.51 inches, meaning the area is 21.14 inches above normal.

The normal rainfall for the entire year in Mountain Home is 45.23 inches, which was surpassed in June.

For the month of August, 2.81 inches of rain fell, which is just 22 hundredths of an inch above the normal of 2.59 inches. Rain was recorded nine days, with the heaviest amount of nine tenths of an inch on the 28th.

Temperatures were fairly normal for the month as well. The hottest temperature was 97 on the 11th. The coldest temperature was 58 on the fifth. There were 13 days with temperatures over 90 degrees.
