The Bakersfield R-IV School District has received confirmation of positive COVID-19 tests from two of its students. According to Bakersfield Superintendent Dr. Amy Britt, both students are in the elementary building.

Dr. Britt says those in close contact with the two students have been informed and given quarantine instructions per health department guidelines. Students in second through fifth grades who were not contacted by the district are not considered close contacts and not required to quarantine, but it’s recommended to monitor for symptoms.

Possible symptoms include a fever of over 100.4 degrees, cough, difficulty breathing, loss of taste or smell, runny nose or congestion, headaches sore throat, body or stomach aches, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. Students exhibiting these symptoms should contact their health care provider or health department.
