September below normal for rain, area still way ahead for year

September rainfall ended up below normal, which makes it just the second month this year below normal, but year-to-date rainfall is still nearly 20 inches ahead of average.Rainfall for September measured 2.72 inches at the KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot studios, the official reporting station in Mountain Home for the National Weather Service. Average rain for the month is 4.33 inches, meaning we finished 1.61 inches below normal for September. Rain was recorded on just five days.

The only other month in 2020 below average was July, which was 1.4 inches below normal, when only 1.37 inches of rain fell.

For the year to date, a total of 52.37 inches of rain has been recorded in Mountain Home. The average rainfall through the first nine months of the year is 32.84 inches, meaning we are 19.53 inches above normal year to date.

The highest temperature in September was 89 recorded on the 6th. The coolest temperature was 48 on the 29th.
