A 17-year-old Salesville teen faces a first-degree murder charge in the shooting death of a 41-year-old man.

Baxter Morrell Stowers was arrested Monday afternoon in the shooting death of Jeremy Wayne Alman at a residence on County Road 111 in Lone Rock. Stowers was charged as an adult and is being held on $200,000 bond.

Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says his office was notified of the shooting at 2 p.m. Monday via a 911 call from Stowers, allegedly stating he had shot and killed another man. The call was made via a cellphone and first routed to the Stone County Sheriff’s Office, which took the information and relayed it to Baxter County, the sheriff adds.

Authorities responded to the residence and located Stowers, who was taken into custody without incident. Law enforcement also located the handgun used in the shooting. Montgomery says Stowers has “refused to make a statement or answer any questions.”

The victim’s body is being sent to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office in Little Rock for an autopsy and “the shooting remains under active investigation.” Montgomery says any additional details will be released as the investigation allows.

Stowers is scheduled to appear in Baxter County Circuit Court on Oct. 16, according to the sheriff.
