A third and final reading of an ordinance to start the condemnation process on the former Hiram Shaddox Geriatric Center located at 620 Hospital Drive highlights the agenda for the Mountain Home City Council’s October meeting.

The meeting begins Thursday evening at 6 in the council chambers of the Mountain Home Municipal Building.

The building as been idle since it suffered severe damage when hit by a small tornado on April 18, 2018. The city’s ordinance states the building suffered “major structural damage.” The city says it has made efforts to have the problem eliminated and has contacted the owner, with no success.

Online property records identify the owner of the property as Health Care Solutions, LLC, and City Attorney Roger Morgan has told the council the property remains the subject of litigation between the owner and an insurance company.

Also on the agenda will be a resolution to accept donated land for the purpose of constructing a fire station. The resolution states the Sharp Family Trust desires to donate real estate to the City of Mountain Home in the amount of three acres. Online property records for Baxter County show the parcel of land is on U.S. Highway 62B East.

The council will hear an ordinance regulating and providing guidelines for balcony construction on the Mountain Home square. If passed, anyone wishing to construct a balcony that enters the right of way must meet the standards set forth by the ordinance and have the request approved by the mayor.

An ordinance to set forth the final plat of Glenbriar Commons, a residential condominium development near the Sheid-Hopper Bypass will be under consideration, as well as an ordinance to establish rules for certain outdoor and mobile vendors doing business within the city limits.

The council will consider abandoning a street right of way in The Oaks subdivision, as well as a request from the Water and Wastewater Department to scrap two rock hammers that cannot be repaired and are no longer usable.
