Very few races locally for general election Tuesday

While most of the country is focused on the presidential race Tuesday during the general election, there will be just a few races in the Twin Lakes Area. Despite the lack of local races, voter turnout is expected to be heavy due to the presidential election.

In Baxter County, there are a total of four races. Republican State Representative Nelda Speaks is seeking reelection to her District 100 seat against Libertarian Party challenger Kevin Vornheder. On the Mountain Home City Council, Lynn Anderson and Nick Reed are vying for the Ward 4, Position 2 seat. Two candidates, Republican Douglas Stevens and Independent James Higgins, are running for constable for District 1. At the City of Lakeview, voters will decide on changing terms for city council members to four years.

Marion County has just one local race as Roy G. Bull and William “Bill” Stahlman Jr. contend for the Ward 3, Position 2 seat on the Bull Shoals City Council.

Fulton County has 10 races on the ballot, including seven quorum court races. The District 2 race is between Independent Lynn Guffey and Republican Roger Kinder. Republican Joanna Defoe and Democrat Burton Yarnell are up for the District 3 seat. In District 4, Democrat Seth Martin faces Republican Gary Phillips. The District 5 race has Republican Robert Elliot taking on Democrat Johnny Moody. For the District 7 seat, Republican Ray Matthew faces Democrat G. Shad Overman. The District 8 race is between Independent Jackie Privett and Democrat Jack Haney. Vying for the District 9 seat are Republican Carrie Andrews and Independent Mark L. Cooper.

Three city council races include towns partially in Fulton County. The Cherokee Village Ward 1, Position 4 race is between Bill Matselboba and Rob Smith. Running for the Hardy City Council are Penny Mendes Allen and Laura Smith for Ward 1, Position 2 and Jeff Munroe and Bruce Thurow for Ward 2, Position 1.

Three races are on the ballot in Izard County. Independent Glendon Everett and Democrat Wayne Boren contend for  justice of the peace for District 8. There are also two constable races. At New Hope, it’s Independent Eric Brantner against Republican Brett Stevenson and at Gid, it’s Independents Donnie Tate and George Whitfield.

In Searcy County, two city council races will be decided. In Marshall, Nellie Castleman and Charmaine Seaton are running for Position 1. In Gilbert, the Position 1 race is between Timothy Ross Eubanks and Dawn Clontz.

Stone County has a total of 10 races, including five for the quorum court. The District 2 race is a three-person race between Independent Howard Stewart, Democrat Travis Trammell and Republican Chip Doss. The District 3 race has Independents Darlene “Lawrence” Garman and Laura O’Quin. In District 6, Democrat Robert Earl “Bob” Turner faces Republican Seth Templin. The District 7 race has Republican Michael Wade Vickers taking on Democrat Jim Ed Cash. For District 8, Republican Frances “Frannie” Blackmon goes up against Independent Eddie Cowell.

Two constable races will be held in Stone County. The District 3 race has Democrat Jeff McClung facing Tom Falci, and in District 4, it’s Republican Pat Walsh against Independent Randall Bonds.

Three seats on the Mountain View City Council will be voted on. The Ward 1, Position 2 race is between Finis Brewer and Janet Nesbitt. The Ward 2, Position 1 race has Wayne “Ricky” Shuttleworth facing Rianna Kendrick. In the Ward 2, Position 2 race, Truman Bullard faces John Morrow.

Nine races will be decided in Boone County, including eight city council races.

Three of those races are in Harrison. For Ward 1, Position 1, Chris Head takes on Jeremy Ragland. The Ward 2, Position 2 race has Larry Phillips taking on Dennis King. The Ward 3, Position 2 race is between Robert Goulet and James Benefel.

Valley Springs has three city council races. Position 3 is between Ryan Reeves and Verna Milam, Roger Breedlove takes on Marlene Milam for Position 4 and Position 5 has Julia Yarbrough against Stephen Bryant.

At Bergman, two city council seats are up for grabs. Rex Lovelace faces Derek Moore for Position 1, and Natosha Beaver faces Connie Sych for Position 2.

There is a mayoral recall election at Diamond City.
