Wednesday will be Veterans Day, and multiple ceremonies and closures have been announced to mark the occasion.

The North Central Arkansas Veterans Council will sponsor the annual Veterans Day Celebration at the Mountain Home Plaza 2000 beginning at 11 a.m. Dr. George Wolford will be the guest speaker and chaplain for this year’s event. KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot General Manager Bob Knight will serve as the master of ceremony.

Patriotic music will be provided by the Mountain Home High School band and director Tom Chetnik, and Raquel Houk will sing the “Star Spangled Banner.” Military honors will be provided by the Alley-White American Legion Post 52.

Coffee and cupcakes will be served by The Salvation Army canteen after the ceremony. COVID-19 rules will be followed, with social distancing and wearing of masks required.

Wednesday’s ceremony can be heard on KTLO-FM and streaming live at ktlo.com. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be canceled with no rescheduling.

Another Veterans Day ceremony will be held Wednesday at 11 at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Marshall. Retired U.S. Army Master Sergeant Eric Jaeger of Leslie will be the honored guest speaker. Jaeger served the Arkansas Army National Guard in the 224th Maintenance Company in Marshall beginning in 1990, and nearly five years later, he joined the active Army. No food will be served at this year’s event.

Later in the evening, a Veterans Day dinner will be held in Ozark County. Navy retiree Mike Hatcher and Air Force retiree Steve Wacholtz are inviting area veterans and their spouses to the dinner and service Wednesday evening at 5:30 at the Bridge to the Living Word Church on U.S. Highway 160 in Theodosia. Hatcher operates Briar Creek Retreat for ministries and missionaries in Theodosia, and Wacholtz pastors Hilltop Victory Chapel in Thornfield.

The meal will be followed by a brief service recognizing the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower Compact signed by Pilgrim colonists at Plymouth Rock on Nov. 11, 1620. Veterans will be invited to read quotes from the country’s forefathers.

Veterans attending are encouraged to wear their medals and any part of their uniform they can still fit into. Those planning to attend should contact Hatcher at 417-771-8093.

Baxter County offices will be closed Wednesday in observance of Veterans Day. Gassville City Hall will also be closed. Mayor Jeff Braim says dial 911 for police or fire emergencies and 870-421-7723 for other city items.
