
Viola split a pair of girls’ basketball games Tuesday with Mammoth Spring.
On the high school level, the Lady Longhorns remain unbeaten after defeating the Lady Bears 63-34. Viola was led by A.J. McCandlis with 17 points, Macey Perryman had 15, Lindsey Browning provided 14, and Sami McCandlis finished with 13 points. For Mammoth Spring, Megyn Upton ended up with 19 points and 12 rebounds. The Lady Longhorns are now 9-0, and they’ll travel to Concord on Friday. The Lady Bears will head to Koshkonong that same night.
It was a different result in the junior high contest, as Viola fell to Mammoth Spring 58-24. Brynn Washam was the Junior Lady Bears’ top scorer with 27 points, and Joslyn Tucher added 14.
Salem had a rough night, as the Greyhounds were swept in three boys’ games by Southside Batesville. The high school game ended with the Greyhounds losing to the Southerners 49-24. On the junior high level, Salem fell to Southside 27-16. The evening began with the seventh grade game, as Salem lost to Southside 28-15.
The Mammoth Spring High School boys came away with a good result, as they edged out Highland 67-65. Cole Young paced the Bears with 20 points, Aidan Burns scored 14, Gavin Boddie had 12, and Logan Doss chipped in 11 points. Mammoth Spring will host Jonesboro Westside on Thursday.
Melbourne High School had mixed results hosting Vilonia. The two-time defending Class 2A state champion Lady Bearkatz came away with a 56-46 victory over the Lady Eagles. Melbourne’s boys did not fare as well, as they lost to Vilonia 44-37.
The Marshall boys had a tough road trip on Tuesday. The Bobcats fell to Green Forest by a final of 79-19.
The Mountain View High School teams ended up getting swept at Tuckerman. The Yellowjackets lost the boys’ game to the Bulldogs 56-37. Mountain View also fell to Tuckerman 38-36 in the girls’ contest.
Bergman was able to pick up a pair of high school victories over Pangburn.
In the boys’ game, the Panthers got past the Tigers 74-68. Bergman was led by Elijah Royce with 30 points and 14 rebounds, Asher Fultz had 15 points, and Walker Patton scored 13.
Bergman dominated the girls’ contest with a 73-49 decision over Pangburn.
The Valley Springs High School teams were able to pick up a sweep at Quitman. The Lady Tigers beat up on the Lady Bulldogs 61-40. Valley Springs later won the boys’ game 58-49.
The Omaha High School teams were victorious, as they took on another set of Eagles at Mount Judea.
Omaha’s boys’ invoked the mercy rule, as they pounded Mount Judea 72-16. William Gray was Omaha’s leading scoer with 21 points.
Omaha also defeated Mount Judea 46-30 in the girls’ contest.
