The Jonesboro Police Department is reporting vehicles are being stolen out of driveways all over the northeast Arkansas city between the morning hours of 5 and 9.

The department notes in a Facebook post in the last two weeks officers have worked a “large” number of thefts in cases where the victims went outside in the morning to start their vehicles to let them warm. The vehicles were gone when the owners came back outside to leave.

The department notes, unfortunately, in most of these situations, letting the vehicles warm means the keys were left inside them, and the doors were unlocked while owners went back inside their homes to finish getting ready for the day.

The department says if you choose to let your vehicle warm in the morning, it is recommended you find an extra set of keys so you can lock the vehicle when returning to your home.
