Local city receives funding for water project

The City of Fifty Six in Stone County is one of seven recipients across the state receiving funding from the Arkansas Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Commission.The seven projects will share $2.4 million in funding for water and wastewater projects serving more than 2,786 people.

Fifty Six received $22,351 in additional emergency funding. The city has a customer base of 230.

In July, a National Guard water tank provided water for residents of Fifty Six, after the town’s water supply was depleted.

Prior to action by the National Guard, the city pump had not been able to produce an adequate water supply for weeks, and residents were asked to conserve.
