Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson says, “Today’s high number of cases is concerning as we’re two days away from Christmas. This is frequently a time to gather with our family in large groups, but this year that presents an increased risk of spreading COVID-19, so let’s plan with our safety guidelines in mind. Please protect yourself and your family.”
The governor’s comments followed the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) reporting the number of people hospitalized in the state with COVID-19 reached a new high Wednesday. The state’s count of cases rose by 2,893 the second-largest one-day increase since the start of the pandemic.
In its Wednesday update, the ADH reported the daily case count takes the state’s total to 22,516 active cases; with 1,110 hospitalized, which is up seven from Tuesday; 174 are on ventilators, which is up one from Tuesday; and 38 deaths added Wednesday brings the total to 3,376.
The state has had a total of 207,941 cases, with 155,447 recoveries; 8,604 PCR tests have been administered, along with 3,697 antigen tests.
