Tuesday basketball results include No. 1 Viola boys beating No. 2 Izard County

Viola went to Brockwell Tuesday to play Izard County, with the boys’ game pairing the top two teams in Class 1A in the Arkansas Sports Media rankings. The No. 1 Longhorns topped the second-ranked Cougars 71-58. Viola is also No. 1 on the girls’ side, and they topped Izard County 52-32.

The Cotter High School basketball teams ended up with mixed results, as they hosted Mammoth Spring.
The Lady Warriors topped the Lady Bears 45-34. Mammoth Spring was led by Sara Crowe with 16 points.
It was a different result in the boys’ contest, as Cotter fell to Mammoth Spring 71-33. Aidan Burns and Cole Young were the Bears’ top scorers with 18 points each, and Logan Doss added 16.

Norfork came away with a split at Calico Rock. The Lady Panthers toppled the Lady Pirates 60-19. Norfork did not fare as well in the boys’ game losing to Calico Rock 64-47.

Flippin’s boys had a dominating win on their home floor. The Bobcats pounded Decatur by a final of 69-40.

Yellville-Summit went to Rogers and picked up a three-game sweep over the Arkansas Arts Academy.
The senior boys’ game ended with the Panthers beating the Diamonds 62-54. David Derosier paced Yellville-Summith with 26 points, and Ben Cantrall chipped in 15.
Yellville-Summit invoked the mercy rule in the senior girls’ contest, as they routed the Arkansas Arts Academy 59-14. The Lady Panthers were led by Avery Dearmore with 18 points, and Jacey Davenport finished with 17.
The mercy rule was also put in effect in the junior boys’ game, as Yellville-Summit beat up on the Arkansas Arts Academy 67-35. Landen Keiter was the Junior Panthers’ leading scorer with 21 points, and River Hill provided 14.

The Gainesville boys had a tough road trip. The Bulldogs fell to Thayer by a score of 57-42.

Marshall’s girls ended up with a rough night at home. The Lady Bobcats lost to South Side-Bee Branch 62-36.

Lead Hill had a pair of lopsided victories hosting Mount Judea.
In the boys’ game, the Tigers were all over the Eagles 84-17. Dustin Turner led Lead Hill with 20 points and 10 rebounds, Quintin Sewell scored 16 points, Cody Paul had 11, and Mason Cain added 10.
The girls’ contest also required the mercy rule, as Lead Hill destroyed Mount Judea 55-21. The Lady Tigers were led by Lily Norman with 27 points, and Kelsey Rogers chipped in 21.

Bergman was able to pull off a sweep over Valley Springs. The girls’ game went down to the wire, with the Lady Panthers edging out the Lady Tigers 57-56. Bergman also won the boys’ contest 64-57.
