
The wait was worth it for the Mountain Home High School basketball teams, as they swept a pair of makeup games over Van Buren Saturday at the Hangar.
The Lady Bombers began the day by defeating the Lady Pointers 45-38. Van Buren led for much of the opening quarter, but Mountain Home would tie the game at 16 to end the period. The Lady Bombers went on top in the second quarter, but again, the game was tied at the break. Once Mountain Home went back on top in the second half, they would not relinquish the lead, as they outrebounded the Lady Pointers 21-12. The Lady Bombers went on to win by seven.
Kate Gilbert led Mountain Home with 19 points. Brooklyn Kannady scored 20 for Van Buren.
The Lady Bombers improve to 3-18 on the season and 2-8 in the 5A-West. The Lady Pointers fall to 8-13 and 2-8.
Mountain Home’s boys wrapped up the doubleheader with a 49-40 victory over Van Buren. The first half had five ties and two lead changes, and the Bombers went into the halftime locker room with a 24-19 advantage. Mountain Home came out scoring the first eight points of the third quarter, but the Pointers ended the period on a 10-2 run. The Bombers built a double-digit lead again in the final quarter before posting the nine-point victory.
Mountain Home was led by Wyatt Gilbert with 16 points, and Jake McGehee added 12. For Van Buren, Avery Salisbury had 20 points, and Brandon Miller chipped in 10.
The Bombers are now 7-9 overall and 3-4 in the league. The Pointers drop to 10-8 and 4-6.
Both Mountain Home teams will wrap up their home stand Tuesday, as they face Vilonia.
