Saturday basketball results include Norfork junior teams winning district openers

The 1A-2 Junior District Basketball Tournament held its quarterfinal round on Saturday.
Norfork’s boys were able to advance to the semifinals. The top-seeded Junior Panthers beat Timbo by a final of 35-24.
Viola was eliminated from the boys’ bracket after falling at home to Rural Special 35-32. Norfork will host the Junior Rebels for the semifinals Monday at 7 p.m. in the Bobby D. Hulse Gymnasium.
Izard County breezed into the boys’ semifinals routingd Shirley 57-28. Lane Mohlke was the Junior Cougars’ top scorer with 17 points, and Jude Everett and Xander McCandlis had 12 each. Izard County improves to 11-4 on the year and will host Greers Ferry West Side Monday at 5:30.
Norfork also advanced to the semifinals on the girls’ side. The Junior Lady Panthers bounced Timbo by a score of 49-15.
Viola will be Norfork’s next opponent, after they eliminated Calico Rock from the tournament. The Junior Lady Panthers will face the Junior Lady Longhorns Monday at 5 in the Norfork Youth Center.
Izard County’s girls also moved on to the semifinals with a 46-19 victory over Rural Special. Quinn Johnson paced the Junior Lady Cougars with 15 points, and Katie Orf provided 11. Izard County is 15-5 on the season and will host Concord at a date and time to be determined.

Salem’s girls invoked the mercy rule in their first game of the 2A-2 Junior District Tournament. The Junior Lady Greyhounds pounded Midland 57-25, and they’ll play the winner of Saturday’s game between Cedar Ridge and White County Central Monday in the semifinals.
