Three people arrested after police responded to a loud, alcohol-fueled argument at a local motel have entered not guilty pleas to the charges against them.

The last of the trio, 21-year-old Embry Parks, appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court Monday and entered her plea.

The two others, 44-year-old Christopher Kozik and 41-year-old Marguerita Jackson appeared during an earlier court session.

The trio was arrested Dec. 15 last year when Mountain Home police went to the Executive Inn and found Jackson standing outside one of the rooms.

The officers reported she was unsteady on her feet, difficult to understand and had the strong odor of intoxicants about her person.

Officers reported going into the room and finding a syringe with an orange cap on the floor.

As they were dealing with Jackson, officers heard yelling. They contacted the other people involved — Kozik and Parks.

Parks told officer she had been arguing with Jackson, identified as her mother and “just wanted to get my baby back.”

Officers learned a male who was in another room at the motel was watching the infant. Officers located the infant and reported it appeared healthy.

Parks, who admitted to officers that she was very intoxicated, said an argument had originally broken out between her mother and father, and the father had left.

She said she then began fighting with her mother.

In addition to the syringe, officers found three glass smoking pipes in the room — two commonly used to smoke methamphetamine and one to ingest marijuana.

Jackson, Parks and Kozik have been charged with endangering the welfare of a minor and possessing drug paraphernalia.

Parks is free on $5,000 bond.
