
There was plenty of high school basketball on Thursday, as district tournaments continued throughout the Twin Lakes Area.
Cotter’s girls advanced to the title game of the 2A-1 District Tournament. The top-seeded Lady Warriors eliminated Yellville-Summit in the semifinals by a final of 50-40.
Flippin will be Cotter’s opponent on Saturday. The Lady Bobcats went to Centerton and got past Life Way Christian 54-51 in overtime.
The Ozark Mountain girls won their semifinal game in the 1A-1 East District Tournament by topping Jasper 74-63. Macy Young led the Lady Bears with 29 points, Brooklynn Baker scored 20, and Kaleena Ricketts added 11.
Lead Hill ended up losing the other semifinal game. The Lady Tigers fell to top-seeded Kingston by a score of 55-27.
Viola’s boys moved on to the title game of the 1A-2 District Tournament by beating Izard County 65-31. The Longhorns were led by Mason Luna with 29 points, and Gage Harris chipped in 16. Viola improves to 29-6 on the season and will travel to Greers Ferry on Saturday to face top-seeded West Side.
The Salem girls were able to invoke the mercy rule, as they routed Tuckerman 61-25 in the semifinals of the 2A-2 District Tournament. Jaycie Strong was the Lady Greyhounds’ top scoer with 18 points, Marleigh Sellars had 13, and Chelsea Hamilton finished with 11. Salem is now 17-5 on the year.
Melbourne will be the Lady Greyhounds’ opponent in Saturday’s final. The Lady Bearkatz also put the mercy rule in effect, as they pounded Cedar Ridge 57-26.
Mammoth Spring’s boys moved on to the championship game of the 1A-3 District Tournament after squeaking by Marked Tree 54-52. Aidan Burns paced the Bears with 24 points, and Cole Young ended up with 15. Mammoth Spring has a record of 21-9 and will head to Jonesboro on Saturday to face top-seeded Ridgefield Christian.
The Gainesville girls were upset on their home floor in the title game of the Class 2, District 10 Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs lost to Dora 47-32. The Lady Falcons will move on to the Class 2 State Tournament on Wednesday and meet Richland in the sectional game.
