The Mountain Home High School basketball teams opened the 5A-West District Tournament on a successful note, as they both were in front of the home crowd Friday for Senior Night.
The Lady Bombers began the night by pulling off the three-game season sweep over Van Buren with a 41-34 decision. Mountain Home took the lead early and never relinquished it. The Lady Bombers had a 10-point advantage at the end of the opening quarter, but by the end of the half, the Lady Pointers had cut the margin to four. While Van Buren had made the game close, they were never able to get over the hump in part to being outrebounded by Mountain Home 24-11.
Kate Gilbert led the Lady Bombers with 13 points. For the Lady Pointers, Brooklyn Kannady scored 12.
Van Buren ends the season at 9-16. Mountain Home improves to 5-20 on the season and will travel to Russellville for its second-round game Monday at 6 p.m.
The boys’ contest was more lopsided, as the Bombers pounded Greenbrier 53-26. The Panthers led for the entire for first period. Mountain Home took the lead in the second quarter and kept it for the remainder of the game. The Bombers pulled further away, as the game continued and invoked the mercy early in the final period on their way to a 26-point victory.
Mountain Home was led by Wyatt Gilbert with 26 points, and Luke Proctor added 13. Nate Barrentine had 14 points for Greenbrier.
The Panthers wrap up the year with a mark of 6-15. The Bombers are now 8-12, and their next game will be at Van Buren Monday at 6.
