
There was plenty of high school basketball on Saturday, as area teams wrapped up district tournament play.
Cotter’s girls finished the week as the champions of the 2A-1 District Tournament. The Lady Warriors defeated Flippin by a final of 58-36.
The Ozark Mountain girls came up short in the final of the 1A-1 East District Tournament falling to Kingston 78-56. Macy Young led the Lady Bears with 22 points, and Joshanna Middleton added 11.
Viola’s boys left Greers Ferry with the title of the 1A-2 District Tournament after beating West Side 65-54. The Longhorns were led by Mason Luna with 21 points, Gage Harris scored 17, and Bryson Luna chipped in 15. Viola improves to 30-6 on the season.
Both championship games of the 2A-2 District Tournament were held at Melbourne. Salem’s girls five-point lead slipped away, as the host Lady Bearkatz ended the game on a 10-0 run to get the 52-47 victory. Melbourne also kept the boys’ title by topping White County Central 54-40.
The Mammoth Spring boys ended up as the runners-up of the 1A-3 District Tournament after falling to Ridgefield Christian 62-58 in Jonesboro. Aidan Burns was the Bears’ top scorer with 35 points. Mammoth Spring drops to 21-10 on the year and will head to Izard County High School on Thursday to face the host Cougars in the opening round of the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament.
Mountain View’s girls had an easy win in the title game of the 3A-2 District Tournament. The Lady Yellowjackets pounded Rose Bud 49-21.
Bergman swept Valley Springs in the finals of the 3A-1 District Tournament at the Panther Palace. The Lady Panthers began the night by beating the Lady Tigers 60-49. Bergman’s boys followed with a 65-61 win over Valley Springs.
District play began Saturday for the larger schools in Missouri, as two area teams began action in the Class 4, District 11 Tournament.
Forsyth was able to eliminate Mountain View-Liberty by a score of 70-53. The Lady Panthers will travel to Willow Springs for the semifinals on Tuesday.
Ava was also able to advance to the semifinals after edging out Springfield Catholic 51-48. The Lady Bears will head to top-seeded Hollister on Tuesday.
