
The Flippin High School girls’ basketball team watched its season come to an end Wednesday in the Class 2A State Tournament at Melbourne. The Lady Bobcats fell to Fordyce 58-43.
Three area teams played their openers in the Class 1A State Tournament at West Side High School in Greers Ferry.
Viola’s girls were able to hit a layup to beat the buzzer to push them past Kirby 44-43. The Lady Longhorns will meet Mount Vernon-Enola Friday in the quarterfinals.
Rural Special was able to dominate the other girls’ game on Wednesday breezing past Ouachita 61-38. The Lady Rebels will be paired with Kingston on Friday.
The Izard County boys’ first game in the tournament was an easy win, as they beat up on Kirby 83-58. The Cougars were led by Caleb Faulkner with 21 points, Coby Everett scored had 20, Gunner Gleghorn finished with 18, and Noah Everett chipped in 15 points. Izard County improves to 26-7 on the season and will go up against Mount Vernon-Enola on Friday.
In Missouri, West Plains’ girls began the Class 5 State Tournament by winning their sectional game. The Lady Zizzers went on the road and pounded Willard 47-27. West Plains will face Carl Junction Saturday in the quarterfinals.
The Ava girls ended up getting eliminated in the Class 4 State Tournament on their home floor. The Lady Bears fell to Mount Vernon by a final of 53-49.
