A series of public meetings has been scheduled for potential customers of a new water project in the Tracy area.

The City of Briarcliff, Engineering Services Incorporated and the Northwest Arkansas Economic Development District (NWAEDD) are partnering with federal and state funding agencies to bring a safe, long-term supply of drinking water to residents in this area of southern Baxter County.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has granted approximately $1.5 million, and the Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC) has awarded $1 million towards this effort.

Prior to the project being put out to bid, USDA requires a minimum number of signups. For this endeavor, that number is 110 customers.

The first opportunity for potential customers to sign up for water and review the preliminary plans with the project engineers is set for Thursday from 2 until 7 p.m. at the Briarcliff Municipal Offices, located at 945 Scenic Drive.

The engineering firm will be on site to answer any questions and share maps for the proposed water line.

According to a NWAEDD spokesperson, all citizens in the Tracy area who are interested in obtaining safe, reliable water are encouraged to attend Thursday’s meeting, as participation is critical in this final stage to assure funding for the project remains in place.

An initial $10 fee will be required at sign-up.

Questions may be directed to NWAEDD at (870) 741-5404.
