Minor earthquake reported in Izard County

A minor earthquake has been reported in Izard County. The United States Geological Survey reports the quake, which measured at 2.2 on the Richter scale, happened at 11:55 Thursday night. It was centered 2.8 miles northwest of Mount Pleasant, which is about eight miles southeast of Melbourne or about 41 miles southeast of Mountain Home.

Experts say normally, earthquakes below magnitude 3 are rarely felt. However, smaller quakes from magnitude 2.0 can be felt by humans if the quake is shallow (few kilometers only) and if they are very close to its epicenter and not disturbed by ambient factors such as noise, wind, vibrations of engines, traffic, etc.
