A Pulaski County man, 54-year-old Lesley E. Dearing of Little Rock, has been arrested in Stone County after reportedly wrecking a stolen truck he had been driving and walking away from the crash.

According to the probable cause affidavit, a Stone County sheriff’s deputy responded to a trespassing call near state Highway 5 on March 28.

Using a description provided by the caller, the deputy located the man, identified as Dearing, walking and carrying several bags of food and clothing. Dearing is a parolee with a warrant for his arrest out of the Cabot Police Department.

He was taken into custody and searched pursuant to arrest. In the process, drug paraphernalia and a set of Chevrolet keys were located.

During the investigation, the deputy learned of a nearby accident involving a 2005 Chevrolet truck still at the scene of the crash.

A second deputy responded to the crash scene, learned the vehicle was reported stolen and gained a description of the driver who had left after the accident. The description matched Dearing.

Inside the vehicle, law enforcement reportedly located drug paraphernalia, along with numerous items belonging to Dearing, including mail, his Social Security and medical insurance cards and numerous tools associated with electrical and maintenance jobs.

Dearing was charged with possession of a controlled substance, a Class D felony; possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class D felony; and theft by receiving, a Class D felony.

According to online documents, Dearing entered a negotiated plea and was sentenced to eight years in prison on the charges.
